Pixar has unveiled the official trailer for Toy Story 5, and the newest chapter in the beloved franchise centers on a conflict many families will immediately recognize. This time, Woody and Buzz are not facing a villain or rival toy. They are facing technology.

The sequel, arriving in theaters on June 19, 2026, finds 8 year old Bonnie captivated by a sleek smart tablet named Lilypad, voiced by Greta Lee. With flashing lights, instant answers, and endless entertainment, the device quickly becomes the center of Bonnie’s attention. As Woody observes in the trailer, “Toys are for play, but tech is for everything,” summing up the emotional tension driving the story.

Jessie realizes Bonnie is slipping away from the imaginative play that once defined her childhood and reaches out to Woody for help. At the beginning of the film, Woody is still out in the world helping abandoned toys alongside Bo Peep, preserving the character growth audiences saw in Toy Story 4. When Jessie tells him she feels like she is losing Bonnie to the device, Woody returns to reunite with his old friends.

The trailer shows Woody back in action, now sporting a poncho and a noticeably shiny bald spot. Buzz Lightyear rallies support in the form of multiple newer Buzz models, creating the promise of a Lightyear army. An epic orchestral version of Randy Newman’s “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” underscores the emotional weight of the reunion.

The opening moments also spotlight Bonnie’s vivid imagination, including a dramatic wedding between Forky and a new plastic knife character named Karen Beverly, voiced by Melissa Villaseñor. Jessie humorously declares, “I now pronounce you husband and knife,” highlighting that Bonnie’s creativity still thrives, even if it now competes with a glowing screen.

Returning voice cast members include Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, Joan Cusack as Jessie, Tony Hale as Forky, John Ratzenberger as Hamm, Wallace Shawn as Rex, Blake Clark as Slinky, Annie Potts as Bo Peep, Bonnie Hunt as Dolly, Kristen Schaal as Trixie, Ernie Hudson as Combat Carl, and Keanu Reeves as Duke Caboom.

New additions to the franchise include Craig Robinson as Atlas, a cheerful GPS hippo toy, Shelby Rabara as Snappy, an excitable camera toy, Mykal-Michelle Harris as Blaze, an animal loving 8 year old, Matty Matheson as Dr. Nutcase, a toy wary of technology, and Conan O’Brien as Smarty Pants, a potty training themed tech toy. Jeff Bergman and Anna Vocino step in as the voices of Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head.

Oscar winner Andrew Stanton directs, with Kenna Harris serving as co director. Lindsey Collins produces, and longtime composer Randy Newman returns to score the film.

While the official rating has not yet been announced, the film is expected to receive a G rating like its predecessors. For parents watching the trailer, the theme is clear. In a world increasingly shaped by screens, Toy Story 5 asks whether imagination can still compete.
