Mom Re-enacts Preschooler’s Proclamations, And We’re All Nodding Along

If you have a preschooler, you know that they don’t just speak or opine, they make dramatic proclamations, worthy of acting awards. A reality show consisting of nothing but under-fives telling their thoughts would have the audiences rolling in the aisle.

Filming every moment of our kids’ days, though, has obvious ethical implications, and one mom, who also happens to be an actress, has found a workaround that allows her to not only share the hilarious things her child says, but to do so while testing her own dramatic skills.

Kelly Vrooman is going viral as she re-enacts the hilarious, dramatic, surprising, and often relatable, things that pop out of her little daughter’s mouth.

Some of these preschool proclamations, such as bold announcements of her feelings about sleepiness or events gone wrong, will have everyone nodding in empathy. Others take us back to things our own kids have said!

Vrooman’s project has stretched over time as her three-year-old has become a four-year-old, and she plans to begin including her two-year-old son too, as his speech and expression improve.

Here’s her latest video, in which she re-enacts her child explaining how to handle bad crocodiles, wedding prep (the groom already has a shirt and pants on!) and “big mad feeling[s].”

Like many kids her age, Vrooman’s daughter enjoys experimenting with certain social norms and expectations that can loom large in a child’s world, like doctors and interpersonal relationships. In one video, Vrooman jokes that her child could write scenes for the drama, Grey’s Anatomy. She acts out her daughter’s performance as a pretend doctor, prescribing a cast for a patient who has “blood coming out of your skin,” and warning the patient to take good care of a “very born” baby.

Don’t forget such important learning experiences as rock-tasting and trip-planning.

It’s not only in medical dramas that Vrooman can see a script-writing future for her child. Some of her declarations, as re-enacted by her mother, are more reminiscent of Game of Thrones.

In one video, the actress quotes her child as saying, “I’m the queen….I like to talk very a lot. I don’t like the other king. He wants me out of the castle because I fight him all day. I fight him with my powers.”

In other cases, Kelly flips the script and shares with us her own side of the story, such as experiences in parenting (which is to say, poop), and the things she’s had to say to her children throughout the day, like, “Take the shoes off your hands and eat your quesadilla,” and “Whose poop is that?”

Again, incredibly relatable.

Vrooman says that her fans tell her constantly how funny and smart her daughter is, but she wonders if all our kids are dropping preschool proclamations like this all day and sometimes we’re too busy to stop and hear it. If the stories her followers share in the comments are any clue, that’s a big yes.
